I know this was intended as a joke, but some of these are not bad! None is really my style, but, hey, it takes all kinds.

Daughter's middle name is Cambria, but after the band.

I tried to convince my husband that Molybdenum was a cute name for a girl. He didn't bite.

Many years ago when I was a teenager I had a job as a library assistant.  Among the "regulars" for story time was a group of four little siblings.  Their surname was Apple, and their given names were Jonathan, Baldwin, McIntosh, and little sister Snow.  Fortunately for Snow that was before the Granny Smiths hit the US markets.

Well, fonts are a clear source of potential names (and many fonts are named after real persons, either first name or surname---Gill and Caslon belong to this category).

I think, grape varieties work better than apples.

And elements---well they are mostly neuter (often ending in the latin neuter ending -ium), do you want to have a neuter kid?

I just stumbled acrossed a 20's big band singer named Helvetia Boswell, which I first read as Helvetica...

Miriam, I remember reading a children's book about a family with the last name Apple. The father pushed for apple names, and their children included MacIntosh and Delicious. The father finally ran out of apple names, and the mother got her way, naming the last one Ann. Like "an apple".

i've never forgotten it, though I wish I knew the title. The domineering father, the way Ann's name contrasted with her sister Delicious... It's the unsatisfying books that stick with you, even picture books when you were 7.

I wouldn't mind playing a Sibset Game with apple names though. Some really usable ones if you have the right style.

Reminds me very much of a story I read when I was little called "Mr. Apple Names the Children" -- a Mr. Apple wanted to name all his children after apples. There was a Jonathan and a McIntosh, and a little girl named Snow. When they had a second girl, Mrs. Apple refused to name her Baldwin, and they compromised on Ann.

@ThursdayNext: I think the little Apples book is "Mr. Apple's Family" by Jean McDevitt, illustrated by Ninon (MacKnight). Children's names were MacIntosh, Johnathan, Delicious, Snow, and Ann (spelling might be off on these). Chapters of it were reprinted in the Doubleday omnibus "Best in Children's Books," including the chapter "Mr. Apple names the children" in Volume 2 and "Apples' New House" in Vol. 11.

It looks like both the book itself and the omnibus volumes are out of print, but you might be able to find one or another in a public library or used copies for sale through Amazon.

I like maps personaly.  If the last name is interesting enough, it can carry a simple first name like John or Jack or Don ... Luttrell

My favorite is to mix my favorite first name with another of my favorite first names for a last name.
