Saint Artemas of Lystra was a biblical figure. He was one of the Seventy Disciples. He is mentioned in Paul's Epistle to Titus.
The boy's name Artemas \a-rte-mas, ar-temas\ is of Greek origin, and its meaning is "follower of the goddess Artemis".
Biblical: a character mentioned briefly in Saint Paul's letter to Titus. Apollonius and Dennis are the similar "follower of" names that have survived even after worship of the Greek pantheon has died out. The name was popular with the Puritans in the 17th century, but fell out of use again. Artemus is the Latin form.- Famous real-life people named Artemas: | Edit
