My son is the 7th generation to have this first name with the first being from Caithness, Scotland and the second and third being from England. Most of the men in the family go by their middle name so as not to cause confusion with other family members although husband's grandfather went by "Ace". I had a hard time with this name at first not to mention the pressure to continue the name by giving it to my son. I am so glad my husband left it up to me. Most people mispronounce it and sometimes people's interpretations sound close to an unsavory phrase. But the more history I read on the name the more I liked it. So we have a 6 year-old Ashal Archer, who goes by his middle name. The fact that he shares a name with his dad, grandpa, etc. is special to him.
