Comments and insights on the name Atticus: | Edit

We named our son, who is now a year old, Atticus. We love the name and get compliments on it all the time. Some people ask where we came up with the name and we tell them it's from "To Kill a Mockingbird." Although the name is rising in popularity, and we were hoping that wouldn't happen, I still have no regrets whatsoever about naming him this. The adjective this name seems to bring to mind the most is "strong." Maybe not a physical strength as much as a resolve to follow one's own convictions and stand out in society as an advocate for the rights of others. Determined and confident.

Personal experiences with the name Atticus: | Edit

Granted, we live in Idaho, but first-timers who hear the name of our son frequently ask: "Atticus? Isn't that one of those Chinese counting machines?" Anyone who has read _To Kill A Mockingbird_ LOVES the name and all my husband's lit students heartily approve. We haven't regretted the choice.

Studly, wholesome football player at my school attending an ivy league next year.

I named my son Atticus, who is two now. Lots of different reactions. Most people love it especially if they have read To Kill a Mockingbird. Some people think it's just awful. But it's unique and one of the most amazing names ever in my opinion.

We can now accurately predict how someone will feel about our son's name based on whether or not they've read TKAM: If they have, they love it. If they haven't, they make a face and say "Oh...." or "How, uh, interesting! Where did you get that name from?"

We named our boy twin Atticus, with his sister's name being Harper. While everyone was hesitant with our choice in the beginning, they all love it now. And we love that he will have a truly unique name, which was our plan. My being a teacher made naming our kids that much harder, and Atticus was unique and a name we adored from To Kill A Mockingbird, which is also where his sisters name came from.

One of my best friends name is Atticus. He is a strong, talented, and very kind person. We normally just call him Atty.
