Auden and Duane are anagrams of each other; they contain the same letters.
It's not a commonly used name.
I like it, but at the same time, it kind of reminds me of audio, autism, olden, etc.
Is verrrrry offended by what was said above. My son carries the name Auden, for the meaning "old friend" (for my passed grandfather) & the most courage & decorated soldier in WWII, Audie Murphy. As for the very derogatory words about disabled persons..well, I take disgusted offence.. you need to remember that people cling dear to the names they have chosen. Maybe use more kind words. Thank you. Sorry to be so upset. It's very raw because my son loves every bit of his name & carries its with puffed out pride...@5yrs old.
My son's name is Auden. We loved the sound of the name, its association with the poet W.H. Auden, and the meaning 'old friend' coming from Old English. We get a lot of questions about his name here in Canada. Many people think we have named him after the Norse god 'Odin' and are just pronouncing it wrong! Many people also mispronounce it as "Ow-den" but it is pronounced 'Aw-den' where the vowel phoneme 'au' makes an 'aw' sound as in 'audio' 'august' etc. We call him Audie for short, just like Audie Murphy.

- Meanings and history of the name Auden: | Edit
A cognate of Edwin, both names are derived from the Old English elements ead " rich" and wine "friend".
Sometimes mistakenly attributed to the Norse god Odin (O.N. Oðinn), but Odin's roots are from the Proto-Germanic name Wuotan (Wōdanaz), meaning " madness, manic inspiration." Ødin is an Old Norse variant of Auden, but similarities aside, Ødin is not actually related to Odin.
