Comments and insights on the name Azriel: | Edit

Derived from Azrael - one of the arch angels (?), and also the name of Gargamels cat in the Smurfs!
also a character from dc comics batman and robin

The name Azriel/Azrael is the traditional name of the angel of death in many religions. I do not recommend anyone naming their child after the name of the angel of death.

Meanings and history of the name Azriel: | Edit

There are several names that sound similar but are spelled slightly differently. Because this name is Hebrew in origin, the variation is not surprising. Azriel means "Help of God" or "God's help".

It can be read in many places that this name means "God is my help" but it will be wise to keep in mind that the name Azriel/Azrael is the traditional name of the angel of death in many religions. I don't recommend naming your child the same name as the angel of death.
