Personal experiences with the name Beckett: | Edit

We named our son Beckett. We've gotten very good feedback from family, friends and strangers. Almost everyone seems to think it is a really fun, unique name. Since it is unusual, most people haven't heard it before, so I have had to repeat it on occasion. I've only run into 2 other Beckett's so far.

We didn't really even think people would call him Becky, but we have had some of the kids at daycare call him that. And occasionally, a child will think we said his name is Bucket. (We're just hoping he'll play basketball, then it would fit!) Just some things to consider!

We just named our son Beckett, it always seemed the first choice. We went into his birth with 4 names (Bennett, Henry/Hank, & Nathan), two of them were more traditional, and our daughter was named a classic name (Anna). We were a little hesitant, since her name was more traditional, but Beck/Beckett just seemed to fit after he was born. The reception has been mostly (sometimes very enthusiastically) positive, with the exception of my very traditional in-laws. His middle name is my husband's name, Thomas. We thought fitting, the reverse of the St. Thomas Beckett, hoping it would make one in-law happy...in the end, you can't make everyone happy. Overall though, the vast majority of the people who have asked his name have been very positive. Most of the comments have been, it's unique, but still sounds familiar and not "crazy" or "out there." Our photographer at his newborn pics was so positive, and said that was her favorite name she had heard in months (she gets alot of names...she said Braxton seems to be a fave right now). I have heard the name given more recently, I found out an old co-worker named his son the same (he is from Ireland), and a coworker's cousin picked the name also. That doesn't concern me, I wasn't trying to go for too "different" anyway--we just happened to really like the name.

Happy name hunting everyone!
