Comments and insights on the name Caelan: | Edit

We named our son Caelan. We loved the sound of the name and that it connected to his Celtic heritage, but was just different enough that there aren't many other Caelan's out there. It's a great alternative to other popular Irish names such as Aidan and Declan.

We named our daughter Caelan. Many lists have it as only a boys name, but you will find some that list it as a female name. We really liked the sound of the name but wanted a more unconventional spelling. So instead of Cailin, Kaylin, etc...we went with the gaelic Caelan.
--------------------------------------------------
We also named our daughter Caelyn (pronounced KAY-lin); I think it is a beautiful spelling variant for Cailin or Kaylin. She was born 06-15-2010.

I named my son Caelan partly of its origin and partly of its meaning. I read somewhere that the name means "slender" and "uncertain". I think life is full of uncertainty. Only recently I've found out the name can also mean strong, or a strong fighter, which funny enough, my son seems to be turning out like one. But I use the pronunciation "Shay-lan" instead of "Kay-lan" as I find that more unique. People usually think his name is spelt with an "SH". He was born in May 2009.

Personal experiences with the name Caelan: | Edit

Named our son this after weighing many options in Gaelic/Celtic names for boys. My husband likes it for it's "softer" sound as he does not like hard consonants in names. I liked it for it's uniqueness but that it is still approachable. We've had nothing but compliments and our son is almost 2.
We also loved the name Caelan, it was the only name we agreed on for our son, he is now almost 10 years old.

I am a girl and my name is Caelan. A lot of the time I hear how "Pretty" my name sounds, but that is only after I clarify that it is Cae-lan not Kait-lin. Which means I have grown in the habit of introducing myself as "Kaitlyn without the T". Teachers tend to stutter when they reach the name in roll call, but grab onto it pretty fast. I really do love my name though. I appreciate that it is unique and I don't get confused with anyone else in my class. Also, no one has noticed it as a boy name.

Caelan in song, story & screen: | Edit

We named our daughter Caelen because we really liked the name a lot and it spoke to my husband's heritage. We read that the name meant triumphant warrior and since I had been put to bed early in my pregnancy under threat of miscarriage, we thought it appropriate. We pronounce it as Kaylin. that was how the pronunciation was shown in the book we used.
Caelen Ashley Rose was born 08/30/1997
