Comments and insights on the name Davin: | Edit

My name is Davin. I have never met anybody else with the name Davin. I was wondering how everybody else pronounced it because I was name like Gavin with a D (rhymes with have in case you don't know Gavin). Some people try to say it like Day-vin.

My name is Davin also. Pronounced like Gavin.I get most people mis-spelling it even when I write it down for them, like on my drivers licence, car registration, work site security pass, health care forms and so on.

~I named my son Davin. I thought that it sounded neat, and was unique. His is pronouced like yours above, Dah-vin. At the doctos office, they have pronouced it with the long A sound, so it sounds like Day-vin. When I tell people his name, they too think that I am saying Devin.

We get a lot of Devin or Gavin ... I just tell people it is like Davenport and then the name tends to stick with them.

Personal experiences with the name Davin: | Edit

People often think his name is Devin. Hopefully that will fade as he gets older, but we thought it was pretty easy to understand when we chose it. :)

Nicknames for Davin: | Edit

His most common nickname is Davie, though at age four he is now clarifying that "no, I'm Davin". His favorite nickname is Davinator. :) Did I mention he's four?

We call him Dav (with a short A sound)

I get called Dav,(rhymes with "have") or "Dav Dav". Or sometimes "Dav dude".

Meanings and history of the name Davin: | Edit

We found a listing stating this is a Finnish name meaning Brilliant.

When we first found the name it said "place where two rivers meet". We live in Portland Oregon where two rivers meet so we thought it was perfect. We guessed maybe it came from an origin of Davenport.
