We named our first born Deacon Maddox and have always gotten tons of compliments on the choice. He has always been a kind-hearted leader which we encourage. So far, I have heard of two other families who chose the name just from meeting him. It is strong and distinguished, but won't stand in his way when he hands out his resume.

A deacon is a cleric or church officer, which sounds like a recipe for laced-up propriety. As a name, though, Deacon has a maverick Western style. When actress Reese Witherspoon chose this name for her son, a lot of parents took note of its stylish throwback sound.
