Always grabs a "Oh, that's an unusual name" from people. Growing up with an unusual name helps to inspire individuality and creativity.

Personal experiences with the name Delvan: | Edit

I grew up with this one. I was named after my biological father, who was also a Delvan. He was named after his father, also a Delvan. His father was supposed to be named after the town or lake (story varies between family members) Delavan, in Wisconsin. However, the hospital misspelled the name on the birth certificate, but his parents liked it, and kept it, and so I ended up with it.

Meanings and history of the name Delvan: | Edit

Delvan is seen in South America and some parts of Africa at a low occurance rate, but still more common than in English speaking nations. However, the name is an old Irish name, and in fact the river that forms the northern border to the county of Dublin is named the Delvan, and has been at least as early as the 16th century (I've found no earlier uses of the name).

Famous real-life people named Delvan: | Edit

Since in my case, I got it through a repeat of a misspelling of Delavan, I will pass on the story of the two most famous Delavans (I know of no famous Delvans).

The city and lake of Delavan was named after explorers with the last name of Delavan.

Delavan was also an astronomer who discovered a comet in 1914. Named, quite aptly, Delavan's Comet of 1914, it's orbit was never exactly determined, but it is not expected to return to our skies for another 24 million years.
