I was told Elric is old Tutonic. Wikipedia says it's Scottish Gaelic. It has been spelled Alric, Ulric, Ulrich, Elrick and other variations. It gained some popularity from the Michael Moorcock novels 'Elric of Melnibone'. I believe it means 'King', but this could be inaccurate.

My son was named Elric in 1991. Since then I've met two other Elrics. Once, in a toy store with my son, I heard a man calling out his name. This alarmed me, until I found the aisle the man was on and saw he was with his own son, also named Elric.

Elrick (Scottish Gaelic: An Eilreig) is a small village on the A944 road 7½ miles (12km) west of the city of Aberdeen. The name derives from a Gaelic word meaning a place where deer were driven for hunting. Elrick is also a common surname in the local area.
