Our son's name is actually August, but we call him Gus. Everywhere I go-people stop me and say,"Did you just say Gus? OMG!!!! That is sooooo cute!!!!" We get it all the time. We know several little guys (5 and under) with the name. It must be another of those 'old' names that are making a comeback....
My son's name is Gus (not a nickname, but his actual name), and it still gets great reactions from people, even now that he's a teenager! When he was little, I'd get similar reactions to his name being called in public as the mom above mentioned--strangers would constantly comment on how cute the name is. I was a little worried those reactions would change as he got older, but that hasn't been the case at all. People still go out of their way to tell me (or tell Gus) how much they love his name. I've had teachers AND a coach tell me that they chose Gus from a list of kids based on how cool his name is. He really gets a lot of positive attention from it, so he loves his name. (It probably helps that he's really cute--seriously, big blue eyes with long lashes, and a very deep dimple in one cheek.) I love that the perception of this name is changing! But 13 years later, we still haven't met any boys named Gus. We've met a few younger boys more recently named Augustus or August, but they go by their full name or Auggie, not Gus. Cute names, but not as cute as my Gus. ;)
