Jedidiah (Ye-dee-dee-yah) was the name given to King Solomon by Jehovah at his birth through the prophet Nathan. Solomon is the son of King David and Bathsheba. Their first child died at birth and God was displeased because the child was the result of David's political murder of one of his top soldiers, Uzziah, who was also the husband of Bathsheba. David impregnated Bathsheba and tried to hide this shame by bringing in Uzziah from the front line during a war to spend time with his wife. Uzziah being a true soldier refused to take up any holiday while his fellow soldiers were still fighting. So David purposely put him at the frontline of a huge battle knowing that his chance of survival would be unlikely. Once David received news that Uzziah died, he then married Bathsheba. God was displeased with David and the punishment for his sins resulted in the stillborn of his child with her. (2 Samuel 11; 12:24-25)
Jedidiah was conceived when David and Bathsheba were married. They named him Solomon but the Lord named him Jedidiah. It was a sign of David had repented and God forgave him. David (Daw-veed) in Hebrew means "beloved". Jedidiah may sound like Ya-David-ya ... which explains why it means (Beloved of Lord God). The letter J = iah. They have the same meaning and similar sound. (J= yah, iah = yah).
