Yiddish given name, from Hebrew Kalonimos, which is from Greek kalos "lovely" or kallos "beauty" + onyma "name." This Hebrew name is first recorded in the Talmud and has been used continuously since then.
German variation of Carl.
Kálmán - Hungarian personal name of uncertain etymology. Current thinking derives it from a Turkic loanword meaning "remainder", but it has traditionally always been equated with German Coloman -- which is in turn derived from the Gaelic name Colm/Calum. (There was an Irish pilgrim who was martyred and became a patron saint of Austria.) The "Colm" family of names is usually traced back to the Latin for "dove".
