Pronounced KEV-ern.
The parish of St. Keverne, where the Cornish Rebellion of 1497 started, is located on the Lizard peninsula in Cornwall. In the Middle Ages, it was the site of an important monastery; this placename was recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086 as "Sanctus Achebrannus" and as "St. Kaveran" in the 13th century Feet of Fines.
Kevern has been used as a surname as well as a given name since the 16th century.
