Personal experiences with the name Lucas: | Edit

My name is Lucas, and from personal experience I can tell you that, as a young boy growing up in Southern California back in the 80's, when my parents and everyone I know still were calling me Luke I got teased alot at school with kids calling me things like 'Muck' 'puck' and yes, even 'Fμ©k'! Well... As I got older I came across the discovery of what my Full name on my birth certificate was and from then on I. Went by Lucas! Well... Along with the promotion of my name so was advancement of the name calling turning into things like 'Mucus' and 'Pukeus' (being a derivative of the word 'puke'- I know, creative hu? Lol!) which Actually was quite unfortunate considering that my last name is Leming (Fleming... "Mucus Fleming"... HA, Ha, ha...) And God only knows how many times I've heard "Luke... I am your father!"! (Which actually is a misquotation of Darth Vader from the iconic movie Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back. Released in 1980.. Coincidentally being the same year as I was born! Lol! Instead the quote being "No, I am your father."! Get it right people! Lol! I digress...) BUT.. As time passed and I grew up, with the help of some information about Why my parents decided to name me the way they did (I won't bother boring you with the details.. Long story! Lol!) I began to really enjoy being named Lucas! Proud even! To start, with the middle name of Dean It's a Solid, Strong name! And again, with the stories behind my parents associative reasons for bequeathing me my name I really wouldn't have it any other way! (LUCAS DEAN LEMING! Oh yeah! Lol!)

I have a Lucas. He is our third son of four. He's siblings are: Ethan (11), Benjamin(8), and Roman(1).

His name is Lucas Isaac. And he is definitely my sunshine and laughter (Isaac). His name suits him perfectly.

Living in Germany now, and it's a pretty popular name. Lucas (Lukas) is Luke in German also.

All our sons have Biblical names... His nick name is Luca.

My sister named her first born Lucas. It fits him perfectly! Lucas is a very happy baby, and smiles constantly. He is definitely the light in our lives.

My son's name is Lucas. Lucas Daniel Cortés. I love him dearly. He is now 11 and enjoys excelling at everything he does. His sister's name is Katherine (5) and goes by Katie. She calls him "Lukie" It is so cute!

Lucas rhymes with mucus. I think about that whenever I hear the name. Surprised it has become so popular.

+1 Regarding mucus... I had a friend named Lucas in middle school and I thought the same thing... although somehow my wife and I still like the name and are still considering it. "Luke" doesn't have that problem and seems "cool" to me, though.

I like Luke better.

I really really like the name Lucas, but it has become too popular for me. In my sons pre school class of 18 children there is 2 Lucas, 2 Luca, and 1 Luke. That's far too many for my liking and the name is still racing up the charts!

If you ever read the book "Peyton Place" by Grace Metalious, you would think twice before naming your kid Lucas. Lucas Cross, a character in the book, was an evil man who raped his stepdaughter over a long period of time and got her pregnant, and she ended up killing him, and was acquitted. Of course, people in the younger generation probably never heard of Lucas Cross or Peyton Place, so being named Lucas wouldn't be such a bad thing. But me, I was a teenager in the 50's and I had never known anyone named Lucas when I read the book, so whenever I hear the name I always think of Lucas Cross.

I am a young mother expecting my second child, which is going to be a boy. I was considering the name Lucas, but after reading the above post, I am now reading the novel Peyton Place, and I've read about Lucas Cross. He was a drunk, a wife beater, and a child molester. Now I'm seriously considering crossing the name Lucas off my list of boy names.
