Comments and insights on the name Maverick: | Edit

We came across the name Maverick in 2006 when I was pregnant with our first child together. We found out we were having a girl. But my Husband loved this name because believe it or not my Husband's name is Starsky and our Son's name is Hutch,we figured that name went well with Starsky and Hutch. So in 2008 when we found out we were pregnant with a boy. There was no doubt in our minds about what we were going to name him. Then the "McCain-Palin" thing started and I was worried about people comparing his name. When people hear his name they say "Daddy must be a Cowboy".

I named my son "Maverick" before McCain-Palin started using the name!!!

My son's name is Maverick and he is very smart. I also love that there is no one else around or in his school with the same name. I like different.

My name is Maverick, middle name Blaise (blaze) and i was born in 1990. I was looking up a name for my child and found this website. Can't lie i'm pretty upset that other people share my name.. :( :( lol but i'm just going to have to get over it. By the way i was named after Top Gun.

My names Maverick too. I always get when people read my name off in school they always ask if I was named after Top Gun. NOOO I wasnt i say that i wasnt name after the mel gibson movie maverick either. My dad is condsidered to me a cowboy and just loves all the western movies and that way of life and so the classic tv western named Maverick with James Garner and Jack Kelly is the show that I was named after. So when you go to wath the Mel Gibson version which is also a good movie, Cooper the Marshall I beleive or Coop is James Garner. He is the original Bret Maverick.

Personal experiences with the name Maverick: | Edit

My son Mavryck (spelling change because i like to sub i for y and visa versa) was born in 2002. I got this name for my son from the movie Maverick (Mel Gibson) my husband being a huge fan of Top Gun (Tom Cruise) thinks that's where it came from. I love the country life, I wanted a son that would ride bulls and I wanted his name to sound tough and sexy so when he stared dating parents were skeptical about letting their daughter go out with him. I named my youngest son Hawkyns (2005), needed something just as tough for the next boy. So far they have exceeded expectations from their names, however, skateboarding and dirtbiking will out rank bull riding anyday. Oh well. My firstborn (daughter) is Bethani.

I have loved the name for a while from Tom Cruise in Top Gun to when McCain was running for President.I thought "Maverick" is such a Great name, masculine, non conforming, independent and strong. Even down to the flight emblem under it on McCains political stickers. It did it for us! i think we have a winner with this name!and its unique. I dont know any Mavericks on the playgrounds.

When I got pregnant with our son back in 1997 I was set on the name "Hunter". Well wouldn't you know, everyone named their boy Hunter that year. I've always had Maverick in the back of my mind so when hubby and I sat down to go over names I just blurted out "Maverick". He looked at me and said "That's cool, I like it". We get mixed reactions from "Wow, that's sooo cool" to a sweet little old lady saying "Why in the world would you name your son after a cow?". Our son definatley lives up to his name!

My cousin named her first child Maverick Robert. When I first found out that she was planning to name him Maverick, I thought it was a little strange, but I liked it after a little consideration. Then when I found out that his middle name was Robert, I lauged because now we can call him Ricky Bobby. HA! Anyway, he now has a little sister named Abby.
