Mehrdad (Persian: مهــــــــــرداد ; Mehrdād) is a Persian male given name. Mehrdad derives from Old Persian 'Mithradatha' and Middle Persian 'Mehrdat', a theophoric name meaning "Gift of Mithra" or "Given by Mehr."

"Mehr" in turn derives from Avestan Mithra, the Zoroastrian divinity and hypo-stasis of covenant.
