Moroni is the name of two separate characters in the Book of Mormon, another testament of Jesus Christ and an account of people who came to the American continent between 600 AD- 420AD. The First Moroni, is more familiarly known as Captain Moroni (c. 100 BC-56 BC) and was an important commander and righteous leader to his people the Nephites. The second Moroni was the son of Mormon (the prophet who abridged the Book of Mormon) and was the prophet who wrote the final account of the destruction of his people, the Nephites. He then buried the buried the record in the Hill Cumorah. It is this Moroni that later appeared to Joseph Smith under the direction of God to show him where the Book of Mormon was buried. Many people refer to him as the Angel Moroni.
Moroni is the name of a city in Utah.
Moroni is also an Italian surname.
