My husband's name is Noel. It's a great name in theory, but in practice it's hard for people to say or remember. He gets called Joel, Noelle, and Noah a lot. Usually Noelle over the phone, by people who have only seen the name written, and then Noah and Joel a lot by people who can't quite remember his name.
I have a cousin named Noel (NOHL). It suits him, but he does complain about the "Noelle" mispronunciation and the Christmas jokes. He's a very talented artist.
