In the Irish language, "Patrick" is spelled "Padraig" or "Padraigh." There should be a "fada" on the first "a" - elongating the sound to "aw" as in "Paw drug."
Patrick is my five-year-old son's name. His middle name is John, after his father, Johnathan. We often call him Pat, as Rick or Ricky just doesn't seem to fit him.

My Patrick is a keeper! In my personal experiences, I have not known very many younger Patrick's...It's a very common middle name instead. However, I have known many women who go by the name Pat.
