Pwyll is probably the most famous hero that exists in Welsh mythology. In the Mabinogi, he was both brawny and clever, defeating ancient enemies and chasing down the beautiful Rhiannon until she confessed to him she loved him. Unfortunately, she was promised to the irritating Gwawl, and she and Pwyll conspired together to trap him in a large bag so that he would leave them alone. Pwyll and Rhiannon had one son, Pryderi, who went on to become a great if rather stupid warrior.
