Comments and insights on the name Raylan: | Edit

Met a little girl named Raylan the other day and just fell in love with the name. I'm seriously considering it for my baby girl. I definitely think this name is going to be more popular with the girls than the boys just as the names Taylor, Riley, Payton and Reagan turned out to be.

Personal experiences with the name Raylan: | Edit

We named our brand new baby boy Raylan.. Every time my husband and I would watch the show "Justified" we always both commented on the name. We loved it the first time we heard it. Everyone seems to just love his name.. and they always tell us that he's bound to grow up looking as handsome as Timothy Olyphant, the very handsome actor who plays Raylan on the show!

My husband and I LOVE the show "Justified", and my husband actually suggested Raylan as a boy name. (We are expecting our first baby boy right now.) I love the name but was nervous at what people would think of it. I googled it to see if it already existed as a baby name and I was thrilled to see the post above! I'm still not positive that is what we will go with but I am happy to see that the name is taken well by others. And may I just say I wouldn't mind if he got Timothy Olyphant's looks at all. ;)

We named our daughter Raylan born 1994. We had never heard of that name before. We came up that with name playing around with the name Raymond who was a good friend of ours. It is pronounced RAY-lun. She is almost 20 years old now and she LOVES her name.

Meanings and history of the name Raylan: | Edit

A modern twist on the name Raymond. From the Old Norman French Raimund (wise protection), which is derived from the Germanic Raginmund, a compound name composed of the elements ragin (advice, judgment, counsel) and mund (hand, protection). However since Raylan only has the Ray portion of the name it means "advice, judgment, counsel" or "wise".

The name is also sometimes given to girls, but there are 15 boys named Raylan for every girl Raylan.
