It's surprising to me that this name has never broken into the Top 1000. Stylistically, it seems to share qualities with currently popular baby names: Surname as first name, -son ending, nickname potential. It's a great choice for parents who like these trends but don't want their son share a name with his friends and classmates. He'll surely be the only one.
- Personal experiences with the name Robinson: | Edit
People react with pleasant surprise when they hear my son's name. It's uncommon without being unusual. I especially found that men of all ages respond very positively to hearing his name, which to me is a good indicator that my son will be proud to grow up with this name. I am never asked to spell Robinson, and it is never misspelled, mispronounced, or mistaken for another name. In this age of creative names and even more creative spellings, I love that his name is never questioned! People seem to like his nickname Rob as much as his full name.
We named our son Robinson. People seem to really like his name--it's not common, but it sounds familiar. Most people assume that it's a last name repurposed as a first name, which is true in our case. We sometimes call him "Robbie," but have asked our family and friends to stick with "Robinson" instead of a nickname, as we like the full name and want it to be used. My mom worried it would be a mouthful, but she's a total convert--LOVES the name and points out it's no longer than other 3 syllable names. The only downside is he's almost 2 and still has trouble saying it--but soon enough!
