Comments and insights on the name Somerset: | Edit

Somerset is used in our family by my son, although I chose it as a possible name for a girl too had he been a girl. The name is derived from Spanish and means "to leap over". The funny thing is, our Somerset likes leaping.
Somerset is a culture-bug name. A child who loves poetry readings, painting, trips to the symphony, music lessons, opera, reading novels, visiting art galleries would suit this name. The reason I say this may be found in the interesting novel entitled Christmas Holidays by author Somerset Maugham about the culture-bug family who did these sorts of things in abundance! You might like it if you're that type of person if you want to change your name.
