I named my son Tawera for he's of Maori descent and even though his own father isn't involved at all (by his own choice, not mine) I will not deny my son of his Maori heritage.
I live in The Netherlands and have gotten some nasty comments over the internet but ignorant people are everywhere.
People who are close to me know the full story behind the name and since my son's the only one with this name in my country at least he stands out in school :)
