Comments and insights on the name Teodoro: | Edit

Teodoro is a strong, unusual name that means "gift from God". It has a poetry and music to the sound of the name that is very romantic. Our son born in 1999 is named Teodoro, and we pronounce it the Spanish way "Tay-oh-door-oh" (with a slight trill on the 'r') We call him "Teo" (pronounced "Tay-oh") although most people pronounce his name Tea-oh, which frustrates him. We have many Theodores in my family, but wanted to honor both sides of our family. My husband's brother is Matthew, which translates to Matteo in Spanish, and is often abreviated to "Teo". Matthew also means "gift from God". The fact that our son's name would honor both sides of our family was a win/win situation for us, while he also has his OWN name, totally different from anyone else in the family, or in his school. The clincher though, was it's meaning, because he is our "gift from God". : )

Personal experiences with the name Teodoro: | Edit

The funniest thing anyone has said to me regarding Teo's name came from the 5 year old neice of his fairy Godmother, who said, "Tayto? What kind of name is that?!" As if he were named after Potatoes - so funny - well, we have to have some way to make up for the famine (that helps to honor the Irish in us!)

Teodoro in song, story & screen: | Edit

The song "Dayo" sounds remarkably like "Teo" (Tay-oh) and it is one we sing to our son to honor his name. Here is the link to a You Tube of Harry Belafonte singing this song, which is also known as the Banana Boat song! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iMTNT_BzkdA
