I have a son named Trajan and we have really enjoyed the name. He is almost 11. He likes telling kids that he was named after a Roman emporer, thought that's not why we gave him the name. We heard it alot while Trajan Langdon played basketball at Duke and just thought it was a fun and unique name.

I have a son named Trajan. When I introduce him to people, I have to say his name atleast twice. It is not a common or bibical name, therefore, I have to repeat it. Everyone thinks that I am saying Trojan, some people tell me that I shouldn't named him that because he will get picked on. As a school teacher, I know that every student at some point gets mad fun of, no matter how much we try to prevent it. We picked this name because it is a very strong name and because of the historial reference. I love his name and I know that he will when he gets older.
My son was born in summer 2007 and is named Trajan after the Roman emperor between Nerva and Hadrian. He was one of the "five good emperors" and Rome reached its greatest size under Trajan. We really liked the name because Trajan was a very strong and good (per his period) leader, it has an easy nickname (Trey/Tray/Traj) and is simple to spell (for a non-top 100 name).
My only fear is the right celebrity or Disney show will use the name and then it will take over.

Traian has inspired a slavic pagan beliefe in him as a god of the night, but only in the Balkans.North of the Danube he is a mythical figure preserved in balads as a great king that drew the first plough, constructed defensive mounds and practicaly put the roots for a new country. In romanian "troian" means earth/snow mound,"trai"=life and "a trăi"=to live, but also "traistă"=a fairly big sack with a big handels and a few more. There's also this Traian Băsescu, a misleading character, that is famous for his campaign logo: Să trăiți bine! =May you live well(prosperouse)! wich, as any corrupt politician, made it impossible for Romania to recover economicaly untill now.
But Traian is a fairly used surname in romanian, alond Decebal(ironically is the dacian king that fought the romans with great success for some years before being defeated and took his life dramatically). This two names inspired tones of written texts.
