- Comments and insights on the name Indigo: | Edit
Indigo has a powerfully creative/artistic image. Used for both boys and girls.
Indigo is NOT a girls name! It's not even unisex. The word itself is a masculine form.I can't imagine a girl named Indigo. It would be like naming a girl Bruno. <--- whilst -o is usually a male form of name there are always exceptions to the rule (such as Juno, Cleo ect), and Indigo definately sounds like a girls name, and not like a boys name. And Indie is definately a more feminine nicname.
- Personal experiences with the name Indigo: | Edit
I have named my SON Indigo (he's known as Indi mostly) and can't understand why it is predominantly considered a girls name. Not only is the colour Indigo a very dark purply blue, which seems a very masculine colour to me, but the "O" ending is masculine sounding too - eg Hugo/Orlando/Marco... I can't think of another girls name with this ending and think in many languages the "O" ending is indeed considered masculine. It's a beautiful name for a boy or a girl, but I do wish so many books/web sites (including this one) didn't list it as only a femail name!!! I know there are other boys here in the UK named Indigo. It should be listed as gender unspecific.
This web site does list it as a unisex name.
