It does not mean sparrow. My name is Ainara and my mum is Basque, and Ainara is variant of the name Enara, which means Swallow(the bird not the verb). It can also mean Queen of Swallows. It is pronounces I-na-ra the R is pronounced the Spanish way, softer than English)

Personal experiences with the name Ainara: | Edit

I was born and raised, and still live in London but my mum is Basque. So, here when people hear my name they often have problems pronouncing it, they usually say "Anara" and they usually have big problems spelling it too. However, once they get used to it, people always say it is a very beautiful and unique name. That is true in England and probably most other countries, but if you go to the Basque Country in Spain you'll find that Ainara is actually a very common name, and it is also rising in popularity all over Spain, not just the Basque Country. Here in England, despite me going to the Spanish school, even the people at my school find the name quite unusual as most of them aren't Basque. Therefore, I love my name, it is unique where I live, but alsso I can go on summer holidays and feel that it is a normal name, therefore it's unique and unusual but not weird, and I also think it sounds nice. I've always been happy with my name Ainara and think it is beautiful.

Nicknames for Ainara: | Edit

When they shorten my name most people call me Aina, but my family and close friends call me Aini, because in Spanish people usually end the nickname with an "I" if they are close to the person, as it gives it a kinder more personal feel to it.
