Alesia: Meaning, Popularity, Origin of Baby Name Alesia | Girls
Origin of the name Alicia:
Variant of Alice, a name that has evolved through a series of variants of the Germanic Adalheidis, a compound name composed of the elements adal (noble, nobility) and heid (kind, sort): hence, "noble one." Adalheidis was contracted to Adalheid, which the French changed to Adelaide, then contracted to Adaliz, and contracted yet again to Aaliz, Alia, and Alix. The English then changed the spelling to Aeleis, Alys, and eventually to Alice.

My Dad named me Alesia, it is of Germanic origin, as my family comes from there originally. I have a sister
named Karen and a brother named Paul, both have Germanic roots to thier names. I am the youngest child of
my Dad, perhaps he felt more inclined to be more creative with the naming. My Dad was a big history buff, and the name actually refers to a castle or town called Alesia, in what was
formerly Ghaul (now France). With wars and disputes, borders and areas changed; this castle/town became part of a small country known as Schwabenland, which eventually became part of Southwest Germany. Schwaben
is now a province of Germany, this is the area that my family is from. Schwaben actually did have noble residents; there was even an ambassador from Schwabenland to King Henry VIII's court; thus the meaning of the name Alesia (which comes from Alicia) means "truth and nobility"On a personal note, cannot say that my name has been a blessing...no-one can seem to spell it or pronounce
it properly. I had actually thought about changing my name, but was daunted by legal fees and government
complications in doing so. On a plus side, there is only one me with my full name, so I would be difficult
to thieve my identity.- Personal experiences with the name Alesia: | Edit
