- Personal experiences with the name Allegra: | Edit
We named our daughter (now 20 months) Allegra. To this day I love the look on people's faces when they hear her name. It's easy to say and spell, but totally unique. I was very worried early on about the allergy medication that was advertised all over the place a few years back, but maybe 2 people have even brought that up ever. I never even see it in ads or on TV anymore, so hopefully it's a brand of the past. Now we need to find a sibling name that is equally special!
We named our daughter Allegra in honor of Allegra Kent. She is now twelve and she LOVES her name. I've only heard one joke about the allergy medication. My father did warn me that my daughter would "hate" me if I named her something unusual like Allegra. He was so wrong! Now he thinks that it is the perfect name for her because it captures her spirit, creativity and intelligence.
We named our daughter Allegra due to its meaning and origins in music. I have been a musician for many years and only met one other Allegra before, but loved the name. My daughter's personality, even before birth, fit the description. She is such an active, lively, and happy child. We worried about the allegry medicine confusion too. I had loved the name for years before that medicine hit the shelf. So, we decided to go with our gut and we have not regretted it. Very few people bring that up and it makes our daughter unique and special. She will be the only one in her class with her name and it's fitting for her.
My name is Allegra, which has always been a source of laughter and cheer (how ironic), because I am Italian and people always joke about it (ex 'Are you allegra, Allegra?'). It has grown popular in Italy in my generation: I know of at least four Allegras around my age.
