Personal experiences with the name Amalia: | Edit

We chose the name Amalia for our daughter who was born in 2011. The name Amalia was my great grandma's name; she however went by Mollie, which I also think is adorable. We chose June for her middle name and occasionally call her Molly June, which I think is a sweet little girl name. We wanted to pick a different or older name that can be used with cute nick-names for a little girl but can also be used when she grows up, I believe Amalia is as beautiful for a little girl as it is for an adult - but of course I do, that's what I named my baby!
The most common issue I have ran into with this name is people assume it’s suppose to be Amelia and that is how it is usually mis-pronounced. I am assuming this happens because they are not familiar with the name Amalia. Another issue is that people will ask her name and I say Amalia, and they think I have said Amaya...umm no, it’s Amalia! When I was pregnant I never thought of these little 'issues' about the name, but even knowing this I would not have chosen any other name for her!
Another side note, it shows the pronunciation as a-MAL-ee-a, in my family it is pronounced a-MAL-yuh, but I like both ways :)
I named my daughter Amalia Kate in 2013. Everybody ALWAYS thinks her name is either Amelia, Amaya, or basically any other name except for Amalia, which annoys me. When we chose her name, my husband and I never thought of the nickname Mollie, which is weird. Oh, and somebody up there said they named their kid Amalia June? That's one of the most beautiful names I've ever heard.
