Comments and insights on the name Arienne: | Edit

This name is often mispronounced. Should be pronounced like saying the letters R-E-N, with the accent on the N.

I second that, too many people put the emphasis on the first syllable when it should be the third -sounds nicer, too.

Reminds one too much of the term "Aryan," which has negative connotations.

If you liken the pronunciation of Arienne to Aryan then you may have a problem with pronouncing words colloquially.

Meanings and history of the name Arienne: | Edit

Welsh, meaning silvery.
Some references also identify it as the French version of Ariadne.

Amplifying on the earlier user's comments: there is a Welsh name root arian ("silver-white") that's seen in names like Arianwen, and Arianne is the French version of Ariadne. But Arienne seems to be at its core a modern creation.

There is an Arienne registered on a Northern Ireland birth certificate in the 16th century which I have a copy of. It isn't a modern creation but is not a common name as it's pronunciation is not clear for those from the gaelic countries. The name whilst not common is generally viewed as old english and derived from the welsh gaelic 'arian' meaning silver.
