I've had this name since 1981 (when everyone else was Melissa or Jennifer) and have yet to meet another Arista. I always liked having an unusual name--although I will say that because the name is Greek, I'm constantly explaining to Greek people (who LOVE to meet other Greek people) that while the name is Greek, I am not. The only downside to the name is that it's so unusual that when I introduce myself people often mishear the name and assume I said "Alissa" or "Melissa" or "Arissa"--essentially any name but Arista. I end up introducing myself as "Arista, like the record company" a lot.
I named my daughter Erista, which is a combination of "Eris" and "Arista". She has gotten many compliments for her beautiful name and the interesting meaning behind it. It fits her well, it is unique, but is not so off-the-wall that no one has ever heard it before.
