Comments and insights on the name Aubrie: | Edit

I feel like this spelling is the cutest spelling of "Aubrey" - the -ey spelling is a little too masculine to me and it doesn't have the horrible "Teen Mom" associations of "Aubree". "Aubrie" is really sweet and I wish it was more popular than the other spellings.

My name is Aubrie and I was born in 1996. My mom fell in love with the name when she first heard the song Aubrey by Bread (an old 1960's band). I wasn't fond of the name when I was younger because no one ever knew how to pronounce it and it was still considered a boy name (ex: the rapper Aubrey "Drake" Graham who played Jimmy on the Canadian show Degrassi). I now love my name. It's very unique and now gaining popularity since Teen Mom broke out. I have only met 1 other Aubrie growing up and that was a stranger in a Bed, Bath & Beyond when I was 11. I like how it pairs with my middle and last name. Aubrie Desiree (des-er-rae) Cain (cane). The meaning behind Aubrie means "elf ruler" or "ruler of small people." Growing up my nickname was "Aubs". Not sure how anyone missed the ball on "Bre" or "Brie." My dad likes to call me by Aubrie Desiree or just Desiree. Both are strong powerful names.

Aubrey by Bread, released in 1972.

"And Aubrey was her name,
A not so very ordinary girl or name
But who's to blame?
For a love that wouldn't bloom
For the hearts that never played in tune
Like a lovely melody that everyone can sing,
Take away the words that rhyme it doesn't mean a thing

And Aubrey was her name
We tripped the light and danced together to the moon,
But where was June
No it never came around
If it did it never made a sound,
Maybe I was absent or was listening to fast,
Catching all the words, but then the meaning going past,

But God I miss the girl,
And I'd go a thousand times around the world just to be
Closer to her than to me

And Aubrey was her name,
I never knew her, but I loved her just the same,
I loved her name
Wish that I had found the way
And the reasons that would make her stay
I have learned to lead a life apart from all the rest
If I can't have the one I want, I'll do without the best

But how I miss the girl
And I'd go a million times around the world just to say
She had been mine for a day"
