when I was younger, I felt somewhat embarrassed by the name, it seemed old-fashioned. I wanted a name that was in -fashion when I was growing up, like Kim, or Wanda, or Keisha or LaShawn or Janet. But I began to feel sort of special after watching "A Raisin in the Sun" and hearing my name on television, and after growing up and studying the character, I've come to realize that I'm just like that character. full of pep and get-up-and-go, very opinionated, yet soft spoken(I take after my mom, she's soft-spoken too,) extremely Optimistic, gracious and loveable, Soft-hearted, culturally aware, creative and artistically gifted.

This is my middle name. it was given to me by my mother, Angela Gail. When she was twelve years old, she went to this summer day camp that took all of the campers to see the play, A Raisin in the Sun. When she heard the name "Beneatha," she decided then that when she grew up and had her first girl, her name would be, Angela Beneatha. now up until that play, my mother had a fascination with the name, "Bernice" but it wasn't until years later when she met my dad and I was born that she found out that my paternal grandmother's name was "Bernice." But it was too late, because on March 9th 1986, I was born into the world as Angela Beneatha Zimmerman.
