My mother's name is Beulah. The pronunciation key is incorrect. Her name is pronounced b+you+la. She was born in 1941. I think it's a beautiful name.

Unlike Edna, I don't think this sounds old fashioned

Beulah is music to my ears. It's old-fashioned and unusual in the best kind of way. When I hear it, I think ... Roaring Twenties ... turbans and peacock feathers ... garden parties ... Don't ask me why.

My parents hung me with this name at birth, and I have always hated it. People have made fun of it all my life. I had it legally changed a few years ago. I don't think there's anything pretty about it.

The name has aways intrigued me because of a great-grandmother with a tragic story.
