Blake: Meaning, Popularity, Origin of Baby Name Blake
Origin of the name Blake:
Transferred use of the surname, which is of two separate derivations. It originates both from the Old En-glish blæc (black, dark-complexioned) and from the Old English blāc (bright, shining, pale, wan). The use of Blake as a given name stems from its prior use as a nick-name for someone with either a very dark or a very light complextion. Var: Blaike.

While commonly seen as a boys' name, I think Blake is AMAZING on a girl!
- Personal experiences with the name Blake: | Edit
I know a girl named Blake and she's considering changing her name. She's sick of the troubles she has with paperwork (getting her transcripts, going to the doctor/dentist's ect.) because people expect a guy. I wouldn't recommend it as a first name. It'd make a great middle name.
