The name Lotte (pronounced Lotta) is a popular name in Germany. Carlotte is less popular, but not totally rare. I was named for my father Carl, and my aunt Lotte.

In the U.S., it is often mispronounced and /or misspelled. Schools and doctor's offices usually pronounce it as Charlotte. They assume I have left out the h by mistake. Many relatives pronounce it correctly, but spell it as Carlotta, even though they have known me all my life and have been corrected. My Advice: choose a name for your child which is not going to cause problems with spelling or pronunciation!
