Origin of the name Cecilia:

Feminine form of Cecil, which is derived from Caecilius, an old Roman family name, which has its root in the Latin caecus (blind, dim-sighted). The name was borne by a 3rd-century Christian who founded a church in the Trastevere section of Rome. During the 6th century, a story of her life was written and she was henceforth venerated as a martyr. She is regarded as the patron saint of musicians.

Personal experiences with the name Cecelia: | Edit

This is my name and at 31, I love it. Growing up, it was a little different so I didn't always like that. It still bothers me that some people have trouble pronouncing it, but less so as I get older. I go by Celia, but family and close friends would sometimes call me Ceil. It is a family name and I like that it has meaning, I was also named after the patron saint of music. It looks great on resumes, and I really like that I never have name confusion with anyone. I get a fair number of compliments on it. It can be a bit of a mouthful for a baby, but there are so many cute nicknames like Cece.
