My parents came up w/ the name Charisse when my dad heard a news story about the dancer, Cyd Charisse. My parents had not even discussed a name because they weren't thrilled about having another baby at that time.

The name Charisse (as I was told) comes from a Greek word 'Charis' meaning 'peace' but when I searched it up I came across the definitions : Beauty, Kindness, Love and most commonly Grace. Though I still believe that the name is partly meaning 'peace' since the two rhyme. 'Charisse' and 'Peace' .. Also, the name sounds quite peaceful and serene ..

I was born in Feb of 1983, and named after Syd Charisse. I have always loved my name, have gotten plenty of positive comments on it, I have never met anyone in person with the same spelling as mine. I always have to spell it out and often have to help people pronounce it, telling them its "like Clarisse with a 'sha' like Charlotte" seems to help. But I love it, it's worth the trouble, and it really seems to suit me.
