I believe this name is Irish in this spelling, but I have also found it in German as Krezenz. A friend from France told me it is a name from the Gaul section of France.

This was my aunt's name and she was named after a family friend of my grandparents. I have also been told that it is sometimes used as a male name, but I have never encountered it anywhere else but in the town where I grew up.

My grandma's name was Cresence.
