Personal experiences with the name Damaris: | Edit

My name is Demaris. My mother changed it from Damaris because her cousin, only nine years older than myself, is named that. It goes way back in our family. Both sides of my family came over on the Mayflower (weird, huh?). One of the passengers, Stephen Hopkins had a daughter named Damaris. Famous because her brother, Oceanus, was born while on the Mayflower. Hopkins, who signed the Mayflower Compact, had two daughters named Damaris, the first one died very young and they named the second one several years later. Almost every generation in my family has used the name. I like it because I've rarely met anyone with the same name. Of course, the pronounciation gets constantly mauled ;-)
