From my Research, The Delaney is Gaelic or Irish in origin, it can also be Delanie, which how the French, may show it!. It is originally a SURNAME, The name can be popular in Ireland. When researching the name I met an very old Irish gentleman, and said to him "Have you ever met many woman with the name Delaney?" he then laughed so hard, he responded with this "Are you stupid man, calling a girl Delaney in Ireland, would be like calling your daughter (David) in New Zealand, you just wouldn't do it", personally I did agree the man. I think people tried to make Delaney popular as a girls name in the 1990s. But would you call your daughter David?

My name is Delaney Rae. When my mother was pregnant with me she said "If the baby is a boy, the name will be Dylan. And if it's a girl, Delane." Then later she came up with "Delaney".
My first name is Delaney and sometimes its ok...I mean people who have never heard it before seem to really love it a lot and I am one of the only "Delaneys" that I know, all of the ones that I have met before have been younger than me (I'm 23) so I guess that this name is on the rise! My mom is Irish and she always told me it meant decendent of the challenger.
I know a girl named Delaney, which is short for Magdalena. I always thought this was interesting and a really cool nickname that I wouldn't have thought of for Magdalena.
Delaney Morgan is my daughter's name. She loves it. NAmed
after my great-grandmother named Delaine. I call her Laney Belle or Lane Bane often. My great great grandmother's name was Bell.
This is my daughter's middle name. She is named after her great-grandparents last name. We spell it with a capital "L", because that's how the last name is spelled.
My last name is Delaney and it isn't spelled with a capital L. I always loved my last name so I will probably use it as my child's middle name if I should have a girl.
My best friends name is Delaney and her middle name is Rae, so we call her D-Rae
