Dulcinea is the main character and love interest of Don Quixote in the classic novel, 'The Ingenius Hidalgo Don Quixote De La Mancha' by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra.
Also a main character in the 1965 Tony award winning musical "Man of LaMancha" based on Cervantes' novel. Lyrics by Joe Darion and music by Mitch Leigh. There is also a 1972 film adaptation of the musical in which Sophia Loren plays the role of Aldonza/Dulcinea.
In the book Rose in Bloom by L. M. Alcott, Rose names her adopted orphan "Dulcinea" after the character in Don Quixote
