I have a friend named Edna. She was born 1994, and she hates her name because it's so old-sounding. Whenever I mention Edna to someone who doesn't know her, they laugh at the name. I would not advise naming a baby girl Edna anymore.
Wow, that's definitely grounds for a name change. Some names need to be left in the past where they belong.
(Edna, Bertha, Belva are a few.) Fashions may come and go, but ugly is forever!
I disagree wholeheartedly. I think Edna sounds much prettier and newer than the butt-ugly and oppressively popular Emma. When I hear the name Edna, I think of a woman who can accomplish anything. I could see this getting a small revival since it is so similar to Emma.
-Edna was my grandmother's name. She was a very strong woman. She raised four children (after being told not to have any after her third was born or she would be putting her health at risk), an alcoholic, stubborn, opinionated husband, and spent the last few years of an all too short life fighting cancer. She does just days after my 5th birthday. My grandmother, mother, and I all have a favorite flower, the Lily of the Valley, and I am planning on a tattoo of one growing out of a pearl (grandma's middle name) and a drop of blood falling from one of the blooms. Debating on Grandma's and Mom's initials around it.
My name is Edna, named for my grandmother. For most of my younger life, I did not like my name, but then I discovered its meaning - rejuvenation. How can you not like a name that means "the action or process of making someone or something look or feel better, younger, or more vital"? And, interestingly, DNA is embedded in Edna. That is pretty special.
