We named our daughter Elizabeth but call her Ellie, after my grandmother (Elsie) and my husband's mother (Helen). I like how she can have a more formal name and a cuter nickname at the same time, but I didn't realize how popular it would be. I've heard parents call their child Ellie out in public at least three times: at the zoo, the park, and a restaurant. I've discovered Ellie is just common for alot of "El-" type of names!

I like the name Ellie. We are giving our daughter her grandmother's maiden name Ellington, and calling her Ellie for short. I find Ellie isn't a strong sounding name, but it's friendly and less formal than Ellington. I like the option of Ellie being a short form because then our daughter can decide if she wants to sound more sophisticated or friendly, depending on her mood or the occasion.

My name is Ellie and I liked being unusual growing up. I used to feel like it was a unique name and a strong, historical name. I kind of annoyed at how popular it has gotten. It feels less unique and too cutsie now.

Our daughter's name is Ellie. My husband chose the name Eliana, mainly for its meaning and that is what is on her birth certificate, but everyone knows her as Ellie and she self-identifies as Ellie also. We had no idea in 2007 that it (and all other El- names) were becoming so popular!
