It largely consists of the mineral corundum (aluminum oxide), mixed with other species such as the iron-bearing spinels hercynite and magnetite, and also rutile (titania). Industrial emery may contain a variety of other minerals and synthetic compounds such as magnesia, mullite, and silica.
- Personal experiences with the name Emery: | Edit
My friend gave her daughter the name Emery. She was a big fan of the rock band of the same name and thought it sounded pretty.
My daughter is named Emery (born Feb 2012). Over the phone, I've had a few people think she was a boy, since it's historically been a boy's name. Otherwise, I'm pleasantly surprised to find that people hear the name pretty well and spelling it once seems to do the trick (I'm sure we'll occasionally get Emory instead). I over-pronounce it EM-er-ree to make sure people hear me, and I think I've actually had a few think I said "Ann-Marie" - and I feared that people think I said "Emily!"
